Star trek online the one

To boldly go bankrupt as no one has done before

Please note that this is only a Personal  break down of what the game has in store for you.please don’t let it put you off.

Like most of us out there we have played one or two MMO, and we might even have a favorite one out the that we have put the most hours into it.sto(star trek online)would be that MMO for me.

Like most of us out there we have played one or two MMO, and we might even have a favorite one out the that we have put the most hours into it.sto(star trek online)would be that MMO for me. I would be proud or would be ashamed depending on which way you look at it if I was to show the hours that I put into that game, I don’t regret those hours, had much fun at the start. Made a few friends on the way, that even today we still play sto and a few games together.

Like I said I don’t regret those hours if you’re a star trek fan and also a gamer, sto was the goto game. It had everything you wanted in a star trek game; it had a large player base, you never needed to wait on any queue to pop.

Then something happened you can’t blame the devs for it, most of what went wrong with sto came from the guys in suits that sit around thinking how to make more money out of the player base, than actually what the player base wants to keep them logging back in.

Even though it might sound bad, what I write here is not what I am trying to do, so you avoid the game.

there is still “THE ONE” reason to play

Free to pay Free to play well that what it says on the tin Like most MMO free to play games out there, you would expect at some point to throw money at the screen after all that little green sever light needs money to stay on. Not going to go too deep into the economics of what a free to play the game is, that’s for another blog.

Free to play

The die hard defender of all things sto would argue that. everything in the game can be obtained if you put the time in and grind for it.

When there is micro-transaction in a game, the grind to get the said item for free is so astronomical, that the excitement of getting that item has worn off by the grind is over.

Then devs either nerf it or bring out something better, That the 6-month grind time to get it would have just been a waste of time.

The question you need to ask yourself is it worth the money or the grind cause either way it’s only your ego that wins in end game.

Exclusivity

Every now and again they will have some event to be played. There is also the Summer event, Winter event, and Anniversary event. These once a year event will gift you a free ship if you log in each day to do the quest/challenge you will then at the end of the grind you obtain an item. You will need to collect a certain amount of those items (daily grind) once you have enough you will then receive the event reward a t6 ship.

Event weekends and other events will more or less be the same, log in for a certain amount of days doing a daily grind. Then obtain an item, instead of a ship, these events will gift you some console or weapon along with other items.alot of these are also part of a set so missing them again would make it harder to obtain them in the future. These events are a large part of the game.they are designed to keep players interested.

The fault about all these events is that any new player to the game or any long timmer that missed these events will have a hard time obtaining these items when they log in. most of these items or ships will in some way be a part of a set.once the event is over they will them put into some lootbox.

Loot boxes

Yeah, they suck the life out of any game, ok there is a difference between customs in loot boxes and meta weapons or ships. sto has a lot of the must-have “oh that’s the ship I’ve been waiting on” slapped in some gambling box. that it does put many people off.you can grind for keys to open these boxes, but the drop rate will make you grind a lot for it. All the ships from these boxes will be on the exchange.you can try to grind for them, but it will take a long time to get enough ec(in-game currency )

Alternatively, you can. Wait for it; this is the best thing I keep reading on Reddit” don’t open boxes with keys buy keys, sell them on the exchange. Then by the ship” yeah right to sell enough keys, could put you out in between 100 euros and up to 500 euros(no ship is worth that). One thing about that logic is that at some point someone has to gamble to win those ships to put on the exchange.

Phoenix box Most of all the other event stuff will at some point in this. Ok, you don’t lose when opening this box, but you might no see it that way if you are trying for that event ship you missed and spend all your dilithium trying to obtain it. Each box you open will gift you a token. Higher the tier the better the reward top tier being the event ship.

What is right about this, is that the lower tier one can be used to buy an upgraded token. The upgrade token out of this box is one of the best upgrade tokens there is if you save them up until upgrade weekend. It makes opening these books worthwhile.

End game A few types of end game in this game, depending on how you feel or what kind of gamer for you, this game has it all.

omething better, That the 6-month grind time to get it would have just been a waste of time.

DPS end game

If you like to chase the deeps, to challenge yourself to squeeze that last little dps out of the build you have made then this game is for you. The endless strange build that you can think of, or even stick with the meta then enters the race that you will most likely never win. Are fun and challenging to do. However, It does take much time and much reading to get the ship just right.

Space Barbie If this is for you go for it nothing better than looking good as you go pop, sitting outside esd showing how good your ship looks makes you feel proud you can spend much time customing the skin and hull color, changing how the hull looks. Then show it off to fleet mates. Then pat yourself on that back cause the grind was worth it.

The one reason why you should play this game, is the ships. It what makes the game worthwhile the grind the loot boxes everything I wrote about above can all be looked past now if you have been a Trekkie fan most of your life.

“have you ever wish you could be captain of your space ship heading off on a 5-year mission to seek out and yeah you know the rest lol”

At some point, someone came up with a good idea to put mastery levels on ships that you then had to rank up unlock a ship trait. Those traits. Could then be used on any other vessels along with four others. If you wanted to compete in PVP or get the most DPS out of which every ship you obtain, you then had to buy those ships just for a trait. That’s when to say the game could be considered pay to win.
The diehard defender of all things sto would argue that.
